Largest African cities - Africa’s population in the urban is the fastest growing globally. It is estimated that in less than 20 years from now, every second person in Africa is likely to live in a town or a city. This will amount to about 926 million, or 438 million of the current population. The UN estimates that, by 2030, the African continent will have 18 cities with populations of more than five million people, up from eight in 2018. It is estimated that in 2030, six of the 41 megacities in the world will be in Africa. The existing largest cities in Africa, i.e. Cairo, Lagos, and Kinshasa will be joined by Johannesburg, Luanda, and Dar es Salaam.
Africa is an emerging continent with enormous economic potential, which financial analysts predict will have a nominal GDP of $2.9 trillion in the coming years. A remarkable economic surge is expected, as a gross domestic product of $29 trillion is projected by the year 2050. The continent’s urbanization has a lot of potentials if it’s executed appropriately due to the apparent capacity of cities to be a major facilitator of economic growth, particularly as the fastest growing cities in Africa aren’t solely the result of a massive population. They combine an active industrial revolution, a quickly rising population, and rapid economic development to provide a significant improvement in continental living standards over the last 200 years.
According to a report by Brahima Coulibaly, Director of Brookings Institution Africa Growth Initiative, about half of the world’s fastest-growing economies will be located on the continent, with 20 economies rising at an average rate of 5% or higher over the next five years, faster than the global economy’s 3.6 percent rate. The continental population is expected to reach around 2 billion people by 2050, as more economic activities are being carried out to counterbalance the growing population. The 25 25 fastest growing and largest African cities will be highlighted in this article.

I made this list based on a combination of GDP, Beauty of the city, Tourist Attractions you probably want to visit, and Skylines in Africa that are so nice, you would have to see to believe. I did a survey on my YouTube page asking what topics people wanted to see more videos about. Africa had an overwhelming response. This video is about the top 10 most developed cities in Africa, and a lot more Africa Based videos are in the works. Enjoy, Share and give the video a thumbs up on YouTube. Sources below.

Natural disaster 16 June 2022. African cities go underwater! Massive flooding covers Accra, Ghana
Police issues alert after hours of rainfall leaves parts of capital submerged
The National Disaster Management Organisation has urged persons living in flood-prone areas to move to safe havens and higher grounds as more rain is expected tonight.
The severity of the flooding caused a gridlock on the Kaneshie-Odorkor stretch of the Accra-Kasoa Road, leaving road users helpless.
Some commercial vehicles got stuck in the floodwater, compelling passengers to disembark and walk.
It was also observed that the premises of some businesses, including fuel stations, was inundated with floodwater.

To build a better, healthier future, cities must become greener and more sustainable.
In Africa, the FAO Green Cities Initiative supported 30 cities in their green transition where agriculture, forestry and agrifood systems are integrated into urban planning.
Piloted by municipalities, with the support of local governance mechanisms, the Initiative has led to positive results.
Let’s discover 6 green cities in action
Bambilor, Senegal, set up urban gardens managed by women's groups,
offering fresh and nutritious food, promoting healthy diets and
providing food to local school canteens.
Kigali, Rwanda, and Kisumu, Kenya, have been working to reduce and reuse food waste through awareness raising and training.
Mombasa, Kenya, has involved youth in urban greening through tree planting activities in schools, and urban farming lessons.
Quelimane, Mozambique, reforested mangroves, improved urban
agriculture, and ensured sustainable food distribution.
In Antananarivo, Madagascar, efforts have been made to encourage home
gardens, boosting home food security and nutrition.
The journey to transform the cities of the world has just begun.

Saturday evening drive around Johannesburg South Africa, known as the City of Gold for its mineral rich surroundings, home to large-scale gold and diamond trades. If you're in Cape Town, don't forget to take an inexpensive 1 hour flight to Johannesburg! South Africans' speak English, Afrikaans (a language of southern Africa, derived from the form of Dutch brought to the Cape by Protestant settlers in the 17th century, and an official language of South Africa), Xhosa, and Zulu. Pro Tip. Write down 10 basic phrases from each language in your mobile phone note pad. It makes traveling so much easier. The locals always appreciate talking with someone who takes the time to learn a few phrases in their language.
Starting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/akty628KQxzKKo6s8 .
Johannesburg, South Africa's biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement. Its sprawling Soweto township was once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Mandela’s former residence is now the Mandela House museum. - Google
Johannesburg, informally known as Jozi, Joburg, or "The City of Gold", is the largest city in South Africa, classified as a megacity, and is one of the 100 largest urban areas in the world. According to Demographia, the Johannesburg-Pretoria urban area (combined because of strong transport links that make commuting feasible) is the 26th-largest in the world, with 14,167,000 inhabitants. It is the provincial capital and largest city of Gauteng, which is the wealthiest province in South Africa. Johannesburg is the seat of the Constitutional Court, the highest court in South Africa. Most of the major South African companies and banks have their head offices in Johannesburg. The city is located in the mineral-rich Witwatersrand range of hills and is the centre of large-scale gold and diamond trade. It was one of the host cities of the official tournament of the 2010 FIFA World Cup – and it hosted the final.
The city was established in 1886 following the discovery of gold on what had been a farm. Due to the extremely large gold deposit found along the Witwatersrand, within ten years, the population had grown to 100,000 inhabitants.
A separate city from the late 1970s until 1994, Soweto is now part of Johannesburg. Originally an acronym for "South-Western Townships", Soweto originated as a collection of settlements on the outskirts of Johannesburg, populated mostly by native African workers from the gold mining industry.
The metropolis is an alpha global city as listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. In 2019, the population of the city of Johannesburg was 5,635,127, making it the most populous city in South Africa. In the same year, the population of Johannesburg's urban agglomeration was put at 8,000,000. Land area of the municipal city (1,645 km2 or 635 sq mi) is large in comparison with those of other major cities, resulting in a moderate population density of 2,364 per square kilometre (6,120/sq mi).
