THE PASSPORT KINGS TOP 10 MOST DEVELOPED CITIES IN AFRICA...
video is showcasing a list cities, in countries, in Africa that the media doesn't often show you. I made this list based on a combination of GDP, Beauty of the city, Tourist Attractions you probably want to visit, and Skylines in Africa that are so nice, you would have to see to believe. I did a survey on my YouTube page asking what topics people wanted to see more videos about. Africa had an overwhelming response. This video is about the top 10 most developed cities in Africa, and a lot more Africa Based videos are in the works. Enjoy, Share and give the video a thumbs up on YouTube. Sources below.

Cape Town, South Africa | Inside the World’s Most Dangerous Cities (Documentary)
Cape Town, South Africa | Inside the World’s Most Dangerous Cities (Documentary) Videohorn 0 Views • 3 months ago

With a population of nearly six million, Cape Town is the second city of South Africa. Many of the richest people in the country have ocean villas there. But there is a dark side to this breathtakingly beautiful city. Three thousand people a year are murdered in Cape Town, making it the most dangerous city in Africa.

Shootings are commonplace, especially in the townships. Some townships have become no-go areas, plagued by murders, violent robberies and illicit trade of every kind. The police are pushed beyond their limits by the level of violence. Many locals choose to carry guns to defend themselves. Some even turn vigilante, while the middle classes barricade themselves into houses that are increasingly heavily fortified.

When they do leave their homes, people are constantly on the alert for potential threats. Last year over 18,000 people in South Africa were the victims of a carjacking at gun point. People have little to no faith in the police, as so many of these crimes remain unsolved. Some invest in panic buttons which they always carry with them. Just one quick press of the red button, and an armed response team from a private company rushes to the client’s rescue.

Manenberg, 15 kilometres from the city centre, serves as headquarters for a notorious gang who call themselves “The Americans.” They are violent drug dealers who flood the streets of Manenberg with “tik” a local version of crystal meth. Their rivals the “Dixie Boys” run protection rackets, and the gangs frequently fight for territory.

The police struggle to enforce the law, but the gangsters have no fear of prison. On the contrary, it helps them to gain status with their peers. Witnesses often refuse to speak to the police in fear of their lives.

With interviews and exceptional access, this film tells the tragic stories of beautiful Cape Town, one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

This film was first released in 2022.

Malls, Markets, and Malnutrition: Food In/Sensitive Planning in African Cities | Jane Battersby
Malls, Markets, and Malnutrition: Food In/Sensitive Planning in African Cities | Jane Battersby Videohorn 0 Views • 3 months ago

Malls, Markets, and Malnutrition: Food In/Sensitive Planning in African Cities | Jane Battersby | Senior Researcher, African Centre for Cities, University of Cape Town
Jammal Lecture

Food security and urban systems governance are not widely acknowledged as falling within local government mandates in African cities. However, urban policies and planning profoundly shape urban food systems and the urban conditions that drive food insecurity and malnutrition. The state’s engagement with the food system is informed by historical policy and planning legacies overlaid with decontextualized imported ideals from the global north. This lecture presents findings from research conducted in South Africa, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe to frame the impacts of existing planning on food security, but also the potential for more food sensitive planning to emerge.

Biography
Jane Battersby is a senior researcher at the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town. Her current areas of particular interest are urban food systems, urban food policies and the construction of food security theory in Northern and Southern research contexts. This work has both theoretical and applied components, and explicitly seeks to work across a range of spatial and governance scales.

She has been the Cape Town Partner of the African Food Security Urban Network (AFSUN) since 2008. She was the Research Coordinator of the recently completed ESRC/DFID-funded Consuming Urban Poverty Project, is associated with the Hungry Cities Programme, and is the PI of the IDRC-funded Nourishing Spaces project.

Jane is the Premio Daniel Carasso 2017 laureate. She is actively engaged in international, national, provincial and local government policy process, having acted in an advisory or consultative position at these levels, and currently a member of the South African Vulnerability Assessment Committee (SAVAC). Jane serves on the advisory boards of several international research projects and a member of the Independent Expert Group of the Global Nutrition Report.

Jane holds a PhD from Oxford University, a Masters from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and a BSc(Hons) from Kings College, London.
