Stacy Anne Smith, born on September 21, 1977, was a popular cheerleader known for her beauty and outgoing personality. After graduating, she married Steven, and they had two children, McKenzie and Landon. However, their relationship deteriorated, leading to a divorce. Stacy later began a relationship with Brent, an old high school acquaintance, but their relationship was troubled by Brent's jealousy and control issues.

On December 28, 2009, Stacy's father, John, found her dead in her home after failing to reach her by phone. Stacy had been stabbed in the neck, and the scene suggested a crime of jealousy and revenge. The investigation initially focused on Brent and Stacy's ex-husband, Steven, but both were eventually cleared as suspects.

The investigation took a turn when Timothy, Stacy's cousin who lived with her, became a prime suspect. Timothy had a criminal past and had a history of substance abuse. After Brent was cleared, Timothy was arrested and eventually confessed to the crime. He admitted to stabbing Stacy in a fit of anger after an argument, and he attempted to frame Brent by writing a message on the wall accusing Stacy of cheating.

Timothy was convicted of Stacy's murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2011. Despite attempts to appeal, his conviction was upheld.
