Hajj 2020: Stunning drone footage of Mecca as it prepares to welcome back pilgrims

Muslim pilgrims have started arriving in Mecca for a drastically scaled-down hajj as Saudi Arabia's authorities balance organising one of Islam’s key pillars with the safety of visitors in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

To mark the uniqueness of this year's Hajj, filmmaker Abrar Hussain has teamed up with author Waqas Ahmed and composer Armand Amar to produce a short film titled "The Barren Valley", a poetic letter of love and longing from Mecca to its pilgrims. The film - which contains stunning drone and aerial footage of Mecca - was launched exclusively with the Evening Standard.
