Ely Cathedral | Cinematic Aerial Views | 4K Mavic Pro Drone Footage
A short aerial film of Ely Cathedral in the UK. Cinematic drone shots with the Mavic 2 Pro overlooking the beautiful city of Ely which happens to be the third smallest city in England. Ely was also home to Oliver Cromwell and his family home which dates back to 1215, being brought by the local council in 1988 and restored to what it would have looked like during his lifetime. The Cathedral started with the erection of an Abbey Church in 672 AD and extended over the centuries using multiple historical architectural innovations and designs. The present building dates back to 1083, and cathedral status was granted in 1109. The stone used for construction was quarried from Barnack with decorative elements carved from Purbeck Marble and local clunch.
Architecturally the Cathedral is outstanding both for its scale and stylistic details. Having been built in a monumental Romanesque style, the galilee porch, lady chapel and choir were rebuilt in an exuberant Decorated Gothic. Its most notable feature is the central octagonal tower, with lantern above, which provides a unique internal space which along with the West Tower, dominates the surrounding landscape. Ely Cathedral is a major tourist destination, receiving around 250,000 visitors per year, and sustains a daily pattern of morning and evening services.
A beautiful destination to see when traveling through this part of the country.
